Detectorists DVD ReviewDetectorists DVD Television Series Review

“We aren’t metal detectors, we are detectorists” Best of friends Lance and Andy build their friendship around muddy fields, in search for the big one, while escaping their dysfunctional, boring lives.

They spend all their spare time with a packed lunch in a muddy field searching for the legend of a lost Saxon hoard.

There main goal is to go down in metal detecting history with one of the greatest ever finds, or at least the best at the local “Danbury Metal Detecting Club”

Wrote with a quirky British humor, this series is not just for other detectorists, it’s fun for everyone. It is a very sweet, and gentle British comedy that follows the lives of two metal detecting enthusiasts. The series changes gently between, serious drama, belly laugh humor and you can’t help but develop a real connection to the characters.

Through the intimate conversations the main characters have while out in the fields, you really get to know what makes them tick as they try to find their feet in life.

The show briefly touches on the long term rivalry between detectorists, and the archaeological society but in the show known as the “antiqui searchers” Where a battle of wit commences.

Mackenzie Crook who plays Andy in the series also wrote the show, has created what I can only describe as a mainstream TV masterpiece and it deserves more than the BBC 4 slot that it got. The acting is suberb and the plot keeps you wanting more. In fact I watched start to finish in a day because I just could not put it down.

There is the odd bit of swearing, so if you are going to watch this with your children it’s worth noting that, however it’s never too much. Nothing about the Detectorists is.

If you are looking for a show that grasps all of your emotions then you are truly in for a treat and I could not recommend it more, the only bad thing I have to say about the series is that there wasn’t more episodes. There are 6 in total.

I could not recall a time when a pair of actors have worked so well together on British Television. Mackenzie Crook and Toby jones have the perfect chemistry and their friendship is beyond convincing.

The show gained the highest ever viewing figures for any new comedy ever screened on BBC 4. The Radio times called it “Utterly Charming” The Guardian said the “detectorists” had “surreptitiously become indispensable viewing” and the Independent said it was one of the best new sitcoms of 2014.

On Amazon the reviews will all confirm what I have said, with 82 x 5 star ratings, 5 x 4 Stars and nothing below you can be sure “detectorists” will be one of the best DVD series you ever buy. Get yourselves ready for season 2!

Season 2 has been announces which was music to my ears. Speaking of music I forgot to mention the show really has some great music featured, and Andy and Lance are quite the surprising musicians themselves! Anyway, season 2 has been announced for late 2015. I can not wait!!
